Installation

I don’t live in the UK – how do I get an Andersen installed

The Andersen Installation service covers the installation of Andersen chargers across the UK. If you live in Europe, we can ship the charger and you will need to arrange your own installation. Installation of Andersen units must be carried out by a qualified professional electrician in accordance with our manual.

When should I get my charge point installed?

It is, of course, preferable to get your installation sorted prior to the delivery of your vehicle.

Can I order an Andersen without the installation?

You can select “no-install” for an A2 charge point, but to have an installation by experts, and get access to our class-leading 3-year onsite warranty, we recommend you use the Andersen service.

Please note Installation of Andersen units must be carried out by a qualified professional electrician. When you purchase “no-install” your warranty will be 12 months only. This applies to your Andersen A2 charge point and this does not include your electrical system connected to the A2

How do I know if I come under Andersen Standard Installation?

The vast majority of installations are standard.  Please refer to our table here for full guidance.

If you aren’t sure, it is best to place your order by selecting our 7kW charge point with standard installation.  We can take it from there.

After you place an online order with a standard installation, we will send you an email questionnaire.

If the questionnaire requires specialist input from our electrical design team or you do not have the time to complete it, we would recommend our Premium install service. We will arrange for one of our survey team to visit your home to confirm if a standard installation is suitable. If required, we will then provide a bespoke quote for any additional materials and labour required over and above our standard installation specification

The pricing of the Premium Install Service includes the cost of the home survey and standard installation elements.  Any additions unique to you will be itemised in our quote.

You can select “no-install” for an A2 charge point, but to enjoy an installation by experts, get the best of your A2 and access a 3-year onsite warranty we recommend you use the Andersen service.

* Subject to Terms of Sales.

Do you do a home survey?

Yes, when you choose our Premium installation service, we will arrange for one of the team to visit your home to confirm your needs, survey the property, confirm your design and provide a quote for any additional materials and labour over and above our standard installation specification.

* Subject to Terms of Sales.

What’s the difference between a single-phase and three-phase electricity supply?

Three-phase and single-phase are electricity supplies and it’s the amount of power that is different.

A single-phase supply is smaller than a three-phase supply.

Most domestic homes have single-phase as standard. On a single-phase power supply, the maximum power you can charge your EV is 7kW.

For properties with three-Phase supply, the maximum power you can charge your EV is 22kW.

What kind of properties have three-phase?

Typically, commercial properties such as businesses, farms, restaurants and shops have three-phase supply. Large domestic homes with heated swimming pools also may have three-phase.

Can I upgrade to a three-phase power supply?

Yes, domestic properties and small business can upgrade their electricity supply from a single-phase electricity supply to three-phase electricity supply. You would need to contact your Distribution Network Provider (DNO) to do this. Cost varies on the complexity of the project and can involve an additional visit from your electricity supplier to connect a meter and whoever you pay your electricity bills to install a new electricity meter. A very rough indicator is between £1.2k – £20k+.

How is my home point charger installed?

A trained electrician must install your charge point.  For information on how to arrange for your Andersen charger to be installed, click here

What happens if my electrical installation is not up to date or insufficient?

During our survey process we endeavour to check all aspects of your current electrical system. This include your current load, fuse board status, and earth bonding around the property. If we find an issue with the installation, we will advise on what needs to be rectified so that you can get your local electrician to resolve before the installation of your charge point takes place.

If you have insufficient earth bonding, Andersen can give you a quote to rectify/install.

What is the difference between 7kW and 22kW charging?

A 22kW charger has the capability to charge your EV up to 22kW per hour. It is 3 times faster than a 7kW charger. 22kW charging can only be supported by households that have a three-Phase electrical set up. Most houses in the UK are single-phase and can only support a maximum 7kW charging output.

Bear in mind that the charging speeds from fast chargers will depend on the car’s onboard charger, with not all models able to accept 7kW or more. These models can still be plugged into the charge point, but will only draw the maximum power accepted by the onboard charger. For example, a Volvo XC60 T8 PHEV will a standard 3.5kW onboard charger will draw a maximum of 3.5kW from a 7kW power supply or three-phase power supply.

A Porsche Taycan with an 11kW onboard charger will draw a maximum of 7kW from a single-phase supply and a maximum of 11kW from a three-phase supply.
